Halloween 5K DONE!

Short post today, I've got to get to work.

I was actually able to force myself to get up and run this morning. Although, I was not brave enough to run outside. I got my 5K done in, a pretty slow, 34 minutes. Feel good now, no pain in the quad.

My distance

With my bib and my goody bag (after I ran)

I'm ready for a day of candy eating (not too much for me) and trick or treating with the girls. The two little ones are feeling puny, so it probably won't be a very long trick or treat adventure. Hope everyone has a great Halloween!!

Halloween *Virtual* 5K

I need to admit that since my failed run Wednesday where my quad killed, I've done nothing but eat! I decided to rest my leg and for some reason also decided that that meant I should stuff myself (quite literally)! I saw today that one of the bloggers I follow, Kiley at Daily Vitamin F is having a virtual 5k tomorrow, and every other holiday coming up. I realized that tomorrow is the day I am going to get myself moving again! So, dark and early I will be up doing my Halloween 5K and all of you should too!!

I don't promise I won't eat a ton of candy tomorrow too, I love candy and my mom always buys the good stuff!! But, I will work on getting my eating back on track starting today and remember that everything in moderation is a great motto!!

Yesterday hubs and I had a great lazy evening! We watched Trick r Treat (one of the best Halloween movies EVER) and Killer Klowns From Outer Space (another classic!) and then we topped the evening off with Bravo's 13 Scarier Movie Moments and Iron Chef America's Halloween Challenge. All in all a great lazy night! Tonight we will probably watch another horror movie or two and then go to bed early so I can get up and run before work, I've been really lazy about that and need to get my runs in early so I don't find an excuse later in the day to skip!

Three Things Thursday

1. We have no microwave. Last month our microwave died and I decided to try to go without replacing it. So far, so good. I don't miss it at all. I feel good about not using it too, since I always freaked out just a little bit about what I was putting into us by heating up any plastic and just the microwaves themselves.

2. I HATE laundry. I don't mind washing or even really folding, it's the putting away that I despise. Honestly, I can't stand it. Now that the girls are bigger I do make them put their clothes away about half the time, but the fact of the matter is about half the laundry ends up sitting on my hope chest or on the couch for a couple of days before it gets put away.  I am THAT lazy!

3. I love my crock pot. Hubs isn't a huge fan of the crock pot though, so I have to be choosy about what I use it to make. I am thrilled that it is fall now (and actually acting like fall) because I can do soups. I made stuffed bell peppers last night and the big girls and I dug it, while hubs and the little girls did not, so I'll shelve that one.

It's been a busy few days! We did the pumpkins Tuesday night, they did a great job on them.

Punkins with the pumpkins

I separated out all the seeds and made very yummy pumpkin seeds to snack on. Yesterday my leg hurt again while I ran, so I finally made an appointment with the Dr. to talk about it (I hate going to the Dr.). I haven't run today, may just skip it and do it in the morning. Meeting my mom for lunch today so I got all my chores done (except putting away those folded clothes) so I can just enjoy lunch.

This picture just makes me happy

Monday Funday

I was surprised that I wasn't at all sore when I woke up yesterday, not even the trick quad, it made me feel a lot better about my ability to run farther! The birthday party went well, no other kids came (I guess an hour and a half is too far for most people to drive on a Sunday afternoon for a party, although it did include free entry into the park and a train ride!), we all had fun. We ended up taking a quick trip into the zoo too since we have annual passes and it's right across the street. Last night hubs and I went to see Paranormal Activity 3 and it scared me half to death! Remember, I'm the girl who LOVES scary movies, and I did love this one, I can't remember the last movie that really scared me, but boy did this one!!

Today I only worked half a day and then went to work at the pumpkin patch at the big girls school, it was fun and then I got to hang out. I was planning to get my eating back on track today since I'd like to thin out a bit, but my monthly visitor came and derailed that effort a little, or I derailed myself with my desire to eat my cramps away with sugar. Getting up to run in the morning so that should help with all the bloating. We are carving pumpkins tomorrow too, which should be a ton of mess fun.

Question of the day - Do you carve pumpkins?

My buddy Christy is giving away a Gymboss on her blog, Christy Run. I'd love to win it, but if I can't maybe one of you can. Good luck.

The 5K I Didn't Run

Today I got up at 3:45 to go to a 5K that I wasn't running or spectating, it was MY 5K. The race was my brainchild this spring and it came to life today. It was so great, I almost cried a few times before it started because I was so stressed and I almost cried during and after because it went well. We only had 24 runners, but for a first time event I am thrilled!! I am hoping to grow the event for next year and maybe even add a 10K! I'll share one runner picture because it is my friend Michele who kicked ass!! She was top female and beat most of the guys too (yay her!!)

Kicking ass and taking names!

After the race I worked for a few more hours and then took my lunch at the end of the day to get my run in. I was scheduled for 7 miles so I ran from the office to the course I'd created for the 5K, ran the course, and ran back. I felt great, although I was freaking out a bit running on the highway with my back to traffic (a couple of scary spots, small shoulder and a blind curve). I felt like I had a pretty great time.

I had hubs take my picture when I got home because I was so excited about the shirt I designed for the race!

I have trouble not showing how excited I am by smiling like a freak

After that we had the end of the season soccer party for the 3 of our 4 girls we coach. We all stuffed ourselves with pizza, I had two glorious pieces of combination. After pizza a good time was had by all, running around playing games and getting tickets to buy crap goodies with.

And mini me won the jackpot!

Now I'm winding down from my 18 hour day and trying to get ready to go to sleep so I can be energized for the two little girls birthday party tomorrow.

Question of the day - What fun things are you doing/have you done this weekend?

Cupcake Classic

It's been a busy couple of days!! Monday we went to the pumpkin patch, it was a lot of fun! We went on a hay ride, the girls rode the train, we played, we picked pumpkins and we went through the milo maze.

Hubs and the girls on the hay ride

Me and my mini on the hay ride

Then yesterday the big girls school had a family science night. We did lots of cool experiments and had a hot dog dinner that helped raise money for my oldest daughter's field trip in March (their bus alone is $2300!!!).

Bubble experiment

Studying a dead frog under the microscope

Making a balloon lung

This morning the two big girls had crazy hair day (I forgot to get a picture) and the littlest had picture day at preschool so I had lots of hair to do! After drop off I did my run for the Cupcake Classic. This Saturday  Jess, from Run with Jess, is turning 37. She is having a real race that day, but she's also having a virtual race this week. I did my 3.7 mile run this morning.

Super excited and a bit sweaty

I didn't have my best time 3.7 in 38 minutes. But, my right quad is killing today so I'm glad I got it done! The rest of the day will be a busy one! I've got grocery shopping to do (we have NO food, oops!!), Target and Wal-Mart run to do, laundry, vacuuming, dusting, and making a whole chicken today for the first time! Three littlest girls have dance today too so the agenda is full! Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday!

Question of the day - What is your favorite Halloween candy?

Mine is all of them, sad but true, I'm a candy freak! That's why I haven't bought anything but candy corn yet (and I may or may not have eaten an entire bag of marshmallow pumpkins (like huge candy corn!!) all by my self).

Sunday Funday

I did get up and run this morning, 3.48 miles in 35 minutes, and I was not in the mood for it I didn't enjoy any of it! After that I had to work the fair again. And here is a recap of the fair in pictures

First I ate a HUGE corn dog

Then I enjoyed some Dipping Dots (mint chocolate)

Then my shift ended and I changed into my regular clothes

Hubs and I walked around for a bit, we bought some soup, I almost got talked into buying some crazy cleaner (I'm a sucker!!) and I got a cool new bamboo shirt to wear when it finally gets cold.

Wow it's a cool new shirt!

After that we went to Red Robin (Yum!) for dinner and I chowed on an Oktoberfest burger and sweet potato fries (I didn't get a picture because it was half gone before I thought to do it! Now we're chilling and watching The Walking Dead and I am freaking out just a bit because I can't find my Garmin charger!!!

Sad Day

I was lazy and didn't get up to work out today, it was nice to sleep in. I will do the run tomorrow morning, it's pretty much the same thing!
The girls all had soccer games this morning, I was annoyed once again because many of the parents didn't bring their kids again and they didn't call. I REALLY hate that, it makes me mad that they don't care enough to come and don't care enough to call!! My 4 year old's team only had 2 players, 2 of 6! My 9 year old's team had 7 there, out of 10, and it's just annoying!! After the games I made a pioneer dress for my 9 year old with my other mother (she doesn't have button eyes, she's my best friend's mom and I've known her forever!). Then on my way to work I found out my hair stylist died in her sleep Thursday night. I was crushed! I adore her, she's done my hair since I was in junior high. I am so so sad for her family. I can't believe she's gone, she was not old, only 48ish. Not happy news!

Sushi and New Shoes!

Today was a normal day, nothing exciting at work. But then I got home and my new running shoes were waiting for me!!
Hello Beautiful!

I don't need them quite yet, I've got about 50-75 miles left on my current pair, but these were on clearance because they came out with a new generation so I had to get them! They are a different color and I think they are gorgeous!!

After my beautiful shoes were opened we tried making sushi at home. The girls didn't dig it as much as I had hoped but hubs and I gorged ourselves!! It wasn't that pretty, so I didn't take any pictures, but next time will be better!

Speaking of gorging myself, I have to show you what I ate for lunch yesterday

Yes I ate the whole salad (and the whole piece of cake)

The salad was so yummy - spinach, feta, cucumbers, almonds, sun dried tomatoes! But the cake, OMG it was amazing! Just a regular white cake dyed to look like a candy corn. It was so so good with great buttercream frosting.

Tomorrow is my "long run" of the week, it's in quotation marks because it is only 3 miles this week.

Three Things Thursday

It's that time again!

1. I'm tired of hot weather! I had to turn the a/c back on yesterday! I am so ready for fall weather, we had a taste (a tease!) last week, but the forecast is staying in the upper 80's until next Wednesday! Yuck!!

2. I did a FIRM DVD today and I am out of shape! I haven't done anything other than running (and a bit of pilates or yoga here and there) in quite a few weeks and boy can I tell! So, I'm going to be making sure I get at least one day of aerobics in a week again!

3. My 5K is coming up in just 9 days and there aren't very many people signed up. I'm not going to be sad if we don't have a big turnout, I knew that might be the case since it is hard to draw people in to new runs. I will be happy as long as it goes off without a (bunch of) hitch(es)!

Last night I made baked taquitos from some chile verde I made and they were AMAZING!! I will definitely be making them again, everyone chowed!

I did a quick 1.3 mile sprint interval on the treadmill before I did my aerobics DVD this morning and it felt great (then the DVD kicked my ass!!). I don't have any huge plans for the day, just going to meet my mom for lunch. Tonight my oldest has jazz and we have to work on her prairie skirt for a school trip. I think that we will probably just hang out and watch some Halloween shows tonight after that.

Since I'm trying to make sure to get a picture of some sort into my posts (and I've got nothing interesting to share) I thought I'd post a picture of me wearing an amazing Active Band that you could win if you go to Vanessa's blog Gourmet Runner, just look at my last post to see what I'm taking about.

Please ignore the fact that I look rough (and a bit crazy)
I was making a silly face

Another Contest

I'm sharing another contest with you all! I really want to win this, I love my Active Bands, LOVE THEM!! So a $25 GC would make me very happy!!

Now, if I can't win I want my followers to win. So, head over to see Vanessa at Gourmet Runner, if you don't already follow her you need too!

Hump Day and Boots

Last night we had soccer for the two big girls and the little girls spent the time climbing trees and running around and I chased them and took pictures.

Monkeys!

It's just another Wednesday around here, which means I'm sitting at home trying to make sure I get everything done while the girls are at school.I got them all dropped off and then went out for my run, 2.78 miles in 29 minutes. After my run I went and got my fingerprints done to volunteer (3 sets!!) and turned in forms, then I ran by the library and they didn't have either of the books I wanted so I requested them, then I headed to Wal-Mart where I bought 10 pairs of boots for the girls. You read that right, 10 pairs! I love boots, especially Uggs, but I'm too cheap to buy Uggs for the girls since they'll just outgrow them, so every year I buy them each a pair of brown and black faux Uggs at Wal-Mart. And when I was there I got the two little girls each a pair of pink because they were just too damn cute!!

This is normal right. If you have 10 kids, maybe...

After that I did a Target run where I only spent $30, new record!! Now I'm home and taking the time to blog and watch last night's The Biggest Loser (hubs HATES it so I watch alone). Tonight is dance class (2 classes of 4) and I'm making baked taquitos tonight. I'm excited to make the taquitos, I've never tried it before so I'm hoping it goes well.
I'm trying to figure out how to motivate myself to eat better, I'm such a slacker. I know I need to track what I eat and eat less crap if I want to tone up, but I don't do it since I'm really OK with my weight so it's harder to really care. But, I'd like to be healthier and really I'd like my legs to look better so I need to get with it!!
Even more pressing is that I need to raise some money for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon! Since I'm running for the Lazarex Cancer Foundation I have to raise $800 and I only have $275 raised. Whatever I don't raise I have to pay (EEK!!), but I'm just not sure how to go about raising more...

Questions for you -
Do you watch what you eat? Do you track it?

How do you think I should fundraise?

Hope everyone has a great hump day!

Columbus Day

It's Columbus Day and that means that since I: 1. Work for the Federal Government and 2. Make the work schedules, I have the day off! Hubs is at work and the girls are at school so I decided I'd have a nice lazy day, since I'm usually running around like a crazy person on my days off. Well, relaxing this has not been, this is the first time I've sat down today. I don't know why I have such trouble not doing something, but I do. I've gone to the grocery store, started chile verde and bean for dinner, put bread in the bread machine (first time), made kale chips (also the first time), did my 30 minute run, showered, vacuumed, and done 4 loads of laundry. I feel accomplished so now I'm relaxing!

Yesterday I had to work the Big Fresno Fair for work and hubs came with me to keep my company. He is a bad influence!! We ended up eating a TON - a cinnamon roll for me, chicken strips and fries for him, Dippin' Dots, beef jerky and kettle corn. Super yummy, but I felt gross when we got home. We also ended up buying something that I resisted buying for years and years even though the booth was right next to mine, but with hubs there we ended up getting one each, a Pure Energy Band.
So the Pure Energy Band spiel is
The green and silver colored hologram discs are embedded with Pure Energy's custom range of natural frequencies believed to resonate through the body and promote a healthier well being. The Weight Loss + Energy Band may help to:
  • Enhance energy flow

  • Decrease appetite

  • Balance metabolism

  • Promote positive emotions

  • Hubs got the one that is supposed to reduce pain since his arthritic knee has really been hurting lately. He's going to meet with a surgeon on Wednesday and wants to avoid getting a new knee since he's only 40! We also bought a Christmas present for my mom.

The one bad part of the day involves the fact that a lot of people really suck! Hubs is addicted to an app on his phone and started killing it so he decided to buy a wall charger. So he went to the restroom and set his phone down because it tends to fall out if his pocket (remember this part) and then went to buy a charger, he came back to the booth to plug in his phone and realized that he hadn't put it back in his pocket, he booked it to the restroom and it was gone. We were both pretty upset! He reported it to the police and they laughed about the chance of anyone turning in an iPhone 4, unfortunately they were right! So now hubs is going to get the new 4S on Friday. I'm bummed we have to spend the money, but excited to see the last product that Steve Jobs saw to fruition.

Nothing else new going on here, but I'm bummed to say that it's getting back up into the 80's. I have a bunch of scarves and I learned a bunch of new ways to wear them and want to bust them out!! This is what I wore Friday and I LOVED it. So ready for fall to really be here!!

Excuse my glowing eyes and the quality, it's a late night

    Versatile Blogger Award!

Wow, I just started my blog and already I got an award. The award is from Beth from RUNNING around my kitchen. Thank you, Beth!! You have to check out Beth's blog, it's filled with all of my favorite things - running, cooking and fun!

    2.  Share seven things about yourself.

    3.  Award this award to 15 recently discovered blogs (which is easy for me because I've been scouring the web for great running blogs recently).

    7 Things About Me:
    1.  I am an only child

    2.  I didn't learn how to ride a bike without training wheels until I was 8 (and my daughter's are following in my footsteps).
    3.  I HATE to fly, I freak out just a little. But, I never let it stop me from going places.
    4.  I love Pepsi, love it! I usually won't drink a soda if all they have is coke.

    5.  I am addicted to almond milk
    6.  I own a lot of music. I love all types of music and have a problem with not buying any new song I like (I blame my iPhone and Shazam!).

    7.  I cry really easily, over really strange things. I started crying in the grocery store the other day when my mom said something about iPhones reading iSad after Steve Jobs died. I also cry nearly every time I watch shows like American Idol and The Biggest Loser, I cried at clips of people singing on X Factor. Also, when I am really happy I cry.

It's Been a Full Day and it's Only Noon

I am pooped! I think that it's time for me to have a nap already! I got up and made coffee and sandwiches for hubs before his fishing tournament (that I hope he is winning!) this morning at 4:20, then I hopped in the shower, got my oldest out of bed and ready and she and I headed to work at the 4-H Breakfast for an hour and a half. At the end of our shift we ate with the rest of the girls and their stepmom.

Using the Incredibooth (which I love) while working

After the breakfast it was time to change clothes for soccer games, where ALL four girls played at the SAME TIME (this is a major issue for me since hubs and I coach 2 of the teams and he wasn't there and I don't have a clone), I roped one of the dads in to coach the little girls since that is easy (you just run with them and make sure they go the right way, 4 year old soccer rules!!) and headed to the 9-10 field. When I got there I was a bit freaked out since I only had 6 players there and 3 minutes to spare (EEK!!), this is a big issue since we play 7 on 7. Talked to the officials, they said no big deal we play 6 on 6 then, yay! But I notice the other team has a goalie and 6, not 5, players on the field. So, after about 8 minutes of the first half (20 minute halves) I ask the official and he said the other team wanted to play their whole team because that's how the kids practice, I called bullshit on this (it is a non-competitive league, there are two competitive leagues in town if they feel the need to get all crazy) and I may or may not have called them assholes (not my finest moment I admit) and then they played fair. My poor kids played their butts off, no breaks and no one where they are really used to playing. I was super proud of them!! I didn't get to see my other 3 girls play, but I heard from the grandparents that they did great!
Once we finished there I headed home to do my long run, 5.5 miles on the Galloway plan for today. I wore my new running skort and was pleasantly surprised with the fit, although the shorts were a little short and I probably would have had a bit of chaffing if I'd run a lot farther or in higher heat. I didn't map a route out so I just went, it ended up being 6.4 miles in 66 minutes and felt great! I went faster than I did my 10K on the 4th of July! That difference in temperature is major!! It was 60 degrees today, as opposed to the nearly 90 degrees when I finished the 10K. I took a quick shower and now I'm at work, where I forgot my socks!! Trying to figure out what to do, wear boots with no socks (Gross!) is my only real option (yuck, yuck, yuck!) Dang it. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Question of the day - What are you doing this weekend? Anything fun, good runs?

Tonight we are going to watch Sucker Punch and then tomorrow I am working a fair and hubs and I will probably walk around after my shift. I also need to try to make a prairie skirt for my oldest some time soon since she has to be in period clothes for a school event on the 21st.

    Three Things Thursday

I decided that since my blog is new and I just passed double digits in posts I'd make my "Three Things Thursday" facts about me.

    1. I'm a huge bibliophile. I love to read. I always have at least 2 books going. More often than not it's one on my Kindle, one on my Kindle app and one paper book. I've read 69 books so far this year. I read mostly chick lit, cozy mysteries and horror novels; nothing too cerebral.

    2. I am a horror movie buff. I really love movies, but horror movies are my favorites. I am watching Scream 4 as I type this. My favorite horror movies are the campy ones that make you laugh and cringe more than scream. I own all the Scream movies, Freddy Krueger movies and most of the Saw movies. I just love them! My favorite horror movie of all time is 976-EVIL.

    3. My favorite foods are cookies, cake and ice cream. I am such a sugar freak! I could live on cookies, brownies and ice cream. But luckily I really love veggies too. I try not to eat too much junk, but some days I fail miserably! Like today, I ate 3 cookies!

Today's been a good day! I got u and took the girls to school and went out for my run. It was a short one, but it felt good. After that I ran a bunch of errands and got a pedicure. Then I made chili for dinner and it was quite yummy if I do say so myself! My oldest had dance tonight and the other girls stayed home with hubs so I read the whole time she was in class, yay!!

    Pretty matte purple toes!

Tomorrow after work we have to go set up for the girls 4-H breakfast and then we're going to Harvest Festival. I'm excited, I love autumn and Halloween! We are going to help my daughter's kindy teacher paint faces for an hour (hopefully I don't screw up since I'm not very artistic!!)

Question of the day - What is your favorite movie?

Quick post to share a great giveaway

I follow so many great running blogs with so many great giveaways. I may start sharing more of them (although that may decrease my chances of winning...)
But this one I had to share, it's for Altra’s INTUITION running shoes. Cool, free running shoes are too great for me not to share. Plus, The Hungry Runner Girl is great so you should read her blog anyway!

    Wednesday Weirdness

So today has been a little weird, nothing I can put my finger on, nothing that jumps out and yells "BOO", it just feels weird. It may be the fact that it's dark and rainy and that it's October. I don't know what it is, but I like it! Although, the cold, wet weather makes me feel lazy! I can't run outside so I've got to get on the treadmill, but obviously I'm blogging instead of running. But I will run, probably right after I blog, but maybe after I go to lunch with my mom.
I bought myself a new running skort today, at Target in the kids section. It's cute and comfy, but a bit loose. It was on clearance for $3.24 so I can live with the fact that it's a bit loose.

Please excuse my filthy mirror and lack of a head, I couldn't find my tripod and this was the best I could do today.

I actually went to the kids section to look for running skorts or shorts for the girls since they will be running at Disneyland too. I may end up buying them all capris though since it could be cool and they are running short races. I need to think up shirts for them to wear too and possibly make tutus...

I am still working through my food thoughts, I'm reading a book called Nourishing Traditions and thinking. I'm getting away from the fruit snacks and any granola bars with high fructose corn syrup for the girls, they will still get a cookie with their milk at night but I may start baking them myself (I have a very yummy chocolate chip recipe that I bet I could make ever more healthy!). I am cutting down on meat for everyone and cutting out for me. It's a small change but it's a change.

Questions of the day (I've got two today) -
What is your favorite healthy snack?
I love my Larabars. I also love edamame, sugar snap peas, Greek yogurt with Kashi GoLean Crunch, and baby carrots.

What are you going to be for Halloween?
I'm in the mood for Halloween already. The house is decorated (although I can't find my Oogie Boogie candy dish or my Jack Skellington wreath...)
I'm going to be Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood (I'm built more like Sookie in the books than Anna Paquin though). Hubs is going to be the Tooth Fairy (he'll be so cute in his white tutu!) The girls will be (oldest to youngest) Mikki from Shugo Chara, Pippi Longstockings (my favorite!!!), Frankie Stein from Monster High, and Olivia. I'm very excited for Halloween!

Still Sick and Having a (Possible) Light Bulb Moment

I'm still a bit sick but on my way to feeling better. I haven't run since my Wednesday run because I have been feeling puny and lazy and Wednesday night I had a HORRIBLE throbbing headache, not a migraine (those I've had my fair share of and can deal with), but it killed!! Thursday I spent the whole day in my 2nd grader's class tie dying shirts and grading papers. It was fun but hard!!

My (developing) light bulb moment came from a documentary I watched called Forks over Knives and it supported some ideas I've had developing, namely I have got to really work on my diet, hubs diet and the girls diets. I hate using processed foods and I hate eating too much meat, but a lot of times I make the sacrifice because we are short on time. I've realized that I need to MAKE the time to make our health a bigger priority. The idea that we should have a whole foods/plant based diet appeals to me. So I am going to try making a few changes at a time so I don't freak the girls out and end up sabotaging my efforts. I'm not sure yet what the first changes will be, I'm still in the planning stages. I just know I want to do what is best for our health. I am going to try to blog more often, hopefully daily as I think this nutrition thing through.

Today the girls had soccer and they all did great. My oldest got kicked in the stomach while playing goalie and hubs had to carry her off the field since she had the wind knocked out of her, it was a bit scary (although I was over talking to the league coordinator so I didn't actually see it, I think I'm glad!) but she's perfectly fine now, no worse for the wear! Tomorrow I'm back on the road, I'm doing my Saturday run since I skipped it today in the name of resting up to get rid of this killer cold.

Question of the day - What type of diet do you eat? If you eat whole and plant based mainly what are your favorites?
We eat a lot of almonds and there are always at least one fruit and vegetable at lunch and dinner. I'm also a huge fan of Larabars and may have to try making some of my own recipe at home.
