And I'm sick!

I'm sick! I'm blaming it on my bad eating (it's a good reminder to eat better) although it's only a cold, so not anything I can really blame on eating. I'm a big baby and HATE being sick so I'm whiny. But, I still got my butt out and ran this morning after dropping all the girls off at school. There is a local running store, one town over but when you live somewhere so small it counts at local, and they have a prize patrol that catches people running and has them spin the wheel for a prize. I was really hoping to win a prize this morning and that's what got me outside, but no prize for me today. I got home and saw pictures of two people spinning the wheel on Facebook. Hopefully they'll catch me another day!
We had soccer last night for the girls and it got dark a lot earlier so we are going to have to figure out a way to get practice started earlier since there are no lights in the park. Tonight is dance for the 3 little girls, big girls has dance tomorrow and Mondays. I am very much looking forward to the end of soccer, even though we all enjoy it, because having 4 evenings a week booked is tough!
As far as my eating goes, I'm back on track today. I don't know what happened but I've been a piggy lately! I'm making a huge pot of homemade marinara today, it smells very yummy! I'll eat mine with a tiny bit of Garden Delight (veggie enriched pasta) and a lot of peas and broccoli and cauliflower. Tomorrow I think I'll make pork tacos and some homemade pinto beans that hubs can refry for him and the girlies.

Question of the day - What is your favorite TV show right now?
This is a tough one for me because I'm a TV junkie!! I'd have to go with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia though, it never lets me down, I am always laughing the whole show!!

Too busy to blog

The last week has been crazy busy!! I'm really glad it's over. We had to leave the house for 4 hours on Thursday because the feral cats that roam the neighborhood brought us the gift that keeps on giving, fleas, and we had to have the house sprayed inside and out. That night we had a family birthday gathering for our youngest, who just turned 4. Then Friday was spent running around like a crazy person at work preparing for National Public Lands Day. Saturday was spent pulling off National Public Lands Day, where our staff supervised over 300 volunteers! It was a long day!! Sunday I made part of a Pippi Longstockings costume for my second oldest with a friend (she really did most of the work).

I've gotten my required runs in, but that's it. Sunday I ran dark and early so I wore hubs headlamp (my friend laughed so hard at me when I told her I wore a headlamp that she inspired me to take a picture next time!!) so I could look at my Garmin for my intervals, I was sexy!! I need to figure out if there is a way to set intervals on my Garmin so that I don't have to look at it but I've yet to figure that out... And I've been eating HORRIBLY!! I had a Doritos taco from Taco Bell for dinner tonight, not my finest food choice!! Tomorrow is a new day so I am going to get my run in and make better food choices!

Someday I'll actually think to add pictures to this blog...

Question of the day - What is your favorite unhealthy food?
Mine is Taco Bell, yum!!

Got the run done, now to get everything else done

I planned to get up and run on the treadmill at 5 this morning. But instead I slept in until 6, it was lovely! I'll be a little bit more rushed today but I decided I'd need the rest to get everything I need to do done today. After I got the girls dropped off I went and ran. I got in 3.6 miles in 36 minutes and I feel great. Now I need to bake a cake, shower, go to the market and do about 900 other things before I pick the girls all up starting at 2. I hope everyone has a great hump day!

Question of the day - What do you make as a go to dinner when you're in a hurry?

Monday Escaped Me

Sunday I got up and did my Rodney Yee Power Yoga, how I've missed it. It is such a nice way to start the day. After work I even ended up doing a little bit of yardwork, not my favorite thing but poor hubs bad knee is really acting up. We also watched Limitless and I loved it!
Then, I woke up this morning and realized it's Tuesday! Yesterday was a lost day. I slept in instead of getting up to work out (oops!) and then after work we ran like crazy until we went to bed (late). I did get up and do a FIRM dvd this morning, it was a fun one with the balance trainer. I really think this week is going to be a difficult one for making time to work out, because unless I get up early I don't think it will happen most days. The girls are very busy this week, we have activities every night and my days off are booked solid already. Our youngest is turning 4 this week! I can't believe how quickly they grow. I'm baking a cake tomorrow for her and trying to figure out a cute way to decorate it, but I'm not great at that so it may just be plain, at least it will taste yummy!

My question for today is - How do you find time to work out when you are super busy?

Saturday (kinda) Long Run, Soccer and Work

I took yesterday off from exercise, I was going to do a FIRM step aerobics DVD but my right quad is bothering me (I think I will really break down and call a Dr Monday, maybe...) I did dance with the girls last night and let me tell you 6 songs on Just Dance is a bit of a workout!
My Saturday started dark and early, hubs had a fishing tournament so we were up at 3:30 to get him out the door. After he left I couldn't fall asleep and I finally decided  to get up and run at 4:20. My Galloway half marathon plan called for a 3 mile long run today. I took it slow since my quad was really acting up and ended up doing it in 36 minutes and feeling good after. The girls all had soccer games today and I coached the two teams we are the coaches for alone since hubs was fishing. The girls did great!! It's been a gorgeous day out today, only 85 degrees and breezy! No scores since it is a non-competitive league, but so much fun was had! And we only had healthy snacks (at least in our coolers) today - I brought (all fruit) fruit roll-up, almonds and Clif Kids ZBars for the girls and a Larabar for me. And my mom, Yaya, brought apples, carrots and sugar snap peas (my all time favorite snacking veggie!!).
Now I'm at work, blogging along on my lunch break. I'm pretty tired and ready to go home and go to bed!! I think I may get up and do Rodney Yee's Power Yoga tomorrow to try to stretch this leg out! Do any of you have suggestions on how to get my quad kink out?

Three Things Thursday

One of the reasons I was most excited about starting a blog was doing theme days (I know I'm a dork, but you gotta love the little things!) So, I'm going with the group and doing Three Things Thursday!

1. Newer isn't always better. I love trying new products, if I see a package with that big "NEW" sticker I'm all over it!! But today I tried a new energy chew before I ran and it was HORRIBLE!! I normally chomp on 2 Strawberry Clif Shot Bloks and I'm happy and ready to go. Today, I tried 2 FRS Pineapple Mango chews (I got a 4 pack free from the Lazarex Cancer Foundation with my runner's pack) and they were so yucky I almost spit them out (and would have had my 7 year old daughter not been standing there watching me, but she was and I don't let her spit out yucky stuff I make her try so I choked them down). Never again, yuck!! They did work well for energy though...

2. I am a little bit obsessed with Larabars. I've been eating a full size and a mini every day. They are just so yummy and filling. I've seen recipes on Pinterest so I may suck it up and try making them myself to save some money, or I may just keep looking for $1 off a box and go that way (I'm lazy like that).

3. I am going to be lazy today and not do any chores. My oldest forgot her lunch box in the van so now I've got to go back to her school and drop it off which I'm using as a get out of the house (and chores) free card! Instead I think I'll go to the library and find books.

Today's run was pretty great. I walked my kindergartner to school and ran from there. I did 3.19 miles in 33 minutes before it got hot (that weatherman lied about the cool down, it was way hotter than 90 yesterday and is supposed to be today now too, yuck!).

It's Wednesday

Wednesday and Thursday are my days where I have 6 hours with no kids, it surreal to have all this time to myself and I tend to try to use it wisely since after everyone gets home we have 9 million things to get done - dance, soccer, 4H, homework, dinner, baths, etc.! Today we only have 2 dance classes after everyone gets home.
So, this morning after hubs left for work and I got all the girls off to school I went grocery shopping alone, this is a dream come true! I love walking down all the aisles and browsing and not having anyone beg for cookies (although I did buy some Oreos for hubs and the girls and Kashi chocolate chip oatmeal cookies for me). When I got home I did my first day of training for the Tinkerbell Half Marathon. I'm following Jeff Galloway's plan and I'm a bit taken aback by the fact that the plan is calling for me to run less than I had been before?! It only calls for two 30 minute runs during the week and a long run on the weekend, weird. But I figure I'll do yoga on Sunday and aerobics DVDs on 2 other days to augment the work outs. So today I ended up doing 40 minutes total and felt pretty great. Tomorrow I will run outside after dropping everyone off because it is only supposed to be 85 degrees!! I am very excited about autumns arrival! Bring on Halloween (and Halloween candy)!

Jumping In

I've finally decided to become a blogger. I read (many) blogs daily and have thought about starting a blog but always thought I wasn't interesting or eloquent enough to blog. Today it hit me that I'm doing something pretty interesting by trying to become more fit and train to run a half marathon in Disneyland in January. So, here I go!
I've got a sick kiddo at home today and am not feeling that great myself so I haven't run yet today but I may end up running a few miles in a bit. Yesterday was supposed to be my rest day but I ended up doing farklets for 2 miles on the treadmill yesterday and I did a pilates DVD after that so today could be a rest day if I don't get it in gear. I did eat like a piggy yesterday! I went to Red Robin (YUM!) with my mom and had sweet potato fries and the Southwest Chicken Salad (that I didn't know came dressed, who does that??) and right next door to Red Robin is See's Candy! Needless to say I indulged. Today I am back on the clean eating wagon, in fact it's time to eat some almonds.
